Plyomat vs Just Jump

Was your Just Jump inflated?

The Just Jump System pioneered field jump testing, but it over-reports flight time by a fixed factor — so 30 years of jump heights have read high. Enter a Just Jump number below to see the real value, then see how Plyomat keeps you accurate and cross-compatible.

True jump height
Just Jump inflation
Just Jump inflates flight time ×1.1119; because height ∝ flight time², that's a ×1.236 (~24%) inflation on displayed height.
Why it happened

The flight-time inflation, explained

A contact mat figures out jump height from flight time — how long the athlete is in the air — using simple projectile physics. The original Just Jump System applied a built-in flight-time factor of roughly 1.1119. Plyomat verified it directly with an oscilloscope: the displayed flight time runs about 11% long.

Here's the catch most coaches miss: jump height scales with flight time squared. So a ~11% flight-time inflation compounds into roughly a 24% (×1.236) inflation in displayed jump height — commonly 4 to 7 inches. That's not a knock on the hardware; the Just Jump is a consistent timer. It just means the absolute numbers a generation of athletes grew up with were systematically high.

Plyomat measures the truth — and includes a Just Jump mode that can re-apply the 1.1119 factor on purpose, so your historical numbers stay continuous when you switch. Leave it on for continuity, or turn it off to see real height. Either way you also get contact time, RSI, RSQ, and Power Score the original never reported.

Cross-compatible

Plyomat switch mats use the same M8 connector as Just Jump controllers, so the migration is a swap, not a rebuild.

Real reactive data

Contact time, RSI, the Reactive Strength Quadrant, and Power Score — timed to 0.001 s. Far more than a single jump height. See RSI →

Just Jump mode re-applies the old inflation so longitudinal data stays continuous — or switch it off for the true number.

Questions

Plyomat vs Just Jump FAQ

Did the Just Jump System inflate jump height?
Yes. It over-reports flight time by about ×1.1119 (oscilloscope-verified). Because height is calculated from flight time squared, that becomes roughly a ×1.236 (~24%) inflation in displayed jump height — commonly 4 to 7 inches. The timing method works; the displayed numbers just run high.
How accurate is the Just Jump mat?
It's a reliable contact-timer, but its displayed heights read ~24% high because of a built-in flight-time factor. It's consistent with itself (good for tracking) but its absolute heights are inflated, and it reports no contact time, RSI, or app data.
Can Plyomat replace my Just Jump System?
Yes. Plyomat switch mats use the same M8 connector and are compatible with Just Jump controllers, and the app includes a Just Jump mode. Keep the familiar workflow; if your controller has died, pair Plyomat mats with the Controller 3.0 for accurate modern data plus contact time and RSI.
What is Just Jump Mode in Plyomat?
It optionally re-applies the Just Jump inflation (×1.1119) so Plyomat's readings match the numbers your athletes are used to — keeping historical data continuous. Leave it on for continuity, or turn it off for the true jump height. Either way you also get RSI, RSQ, and Power Score.
What does Plyomat measure that Just Jump doesn't?
Ground contact time, RSI, the Reactive Strength Quadrant, Power Score, and asymmetry, all to 0.001 s, plus a free app with rosters, reports, and live display over Bluetooth. Just Jump shows a single inflated height on a handheld with no app.
